Drains, Waste and Vent Pipes

The latest version of AS/NZS 1260:1999 for PVC Pipes and Fittings for Drain, Waste and Vent applications requires PVC pipes of 100mm and above diameter to be specified in terms of stiffness to satisfy the requirements of different applications.

Stiffness is a measure of a pipe's ability to withstand lateral deflection or "squashing" which is a critical requirement for buried pipelines.

The stiffness rating (SN) of the pipe must be marked on all DWV pipes with diameters of 100mm and above. The old SH mark has been replaced with SN6 which represents a stiffness of 6000 Newtons/metre/metre as specified in the AS/NZS 1260:1999.
